David, the father, began in 1988 when his three sons Dave, Nick, and Eli were children. While leading music at a youth retreat, David met a man named Jonathan who's father was a well known preaching evangelist. Jonathan's father had recently passed away. Jonathan shared with David that he knew his father loved him, but he was in high demand and was usually not able to be at home. His eyes then filled with tears as he told David that he wished he could have known his father better. That night David went to his hotel room and spent some time on his knees in prayer. He asked God to give him something he could do with his family so that his three sons would not grow up and have to say that they never knew their father. Now, twenty years later it's clear to see that on that very night, God heard a desperate dad's prayer.
But The Akins have only begun. In July of 2008 they signed with Crossroads Records. Since that time, The Akins have struck a chord in the Southern Gospel music industry with their fresh sound, original songs, and live music. They are two time "Horizon Group of the Year" nominees by Singing News Magazine, and have received multiple nomiations at the Inspirational Country Music Awards including, "Entertainer of the Year," "Vocal Group of the Year," and "Christian Country Song of the Year." Their most recent CD release, self titled The Akins features their # 1 hit "I Want My Stage To Be An Altar."

Dear Friend,
I am writing to let you know about a very unique family in our church. David Akin was called into music evangelism at Harp’s Crossing nearly 25 years ago. David and his music ministry have been such a blessing to me and to Harp’s Crossing. David and his wife Lagene have three sons and as their sons grew older, they joined him in the ministry. All of the boys are now married and continue to be part of the ministry. I can vouch without reservation for their walk with the Lord. It was my privilege to counsel each of the boys along with their brides-to-be and it was my honor to perform their weddings.
The Akins are incredible in concert! They do all of their music live. They have written many of their songs and they also incorporate many of the old hymns that we all love to hear. All of the boys are very gifted and play various instruments. They appeal to people of all ages. In addition to David’s three sons, Dave, Nick and Eli, his God son Zac Brooks plays the drums for the group. It is a “for real” family affair!
I believe that you will be blessed by The Akins. I hope you will take the time to check them out. There are many wonderful groups out there, but I believe you will find The Akins unique.

In a world where music is created by a computer and words can be empty cliches, The Akins are real.
Their music is refreshingly honest and unassuming, yet their acoustic skills are honed to fine art. Their melodies give you the feeling that you've heard The Akins forever, but you've never heard anything quite like them. Their lyrics take a familiar truth and deliver a powerful message with a wink at normality. Their hearts are evident in the words they sing. They want their stage to be an altar, their songs to speak to the soul and their audience to have a genuine encounter with God.
A broken world needs real compassion and honest truth. The Akins are a perfect fit.

The Akins are impressive as musicians, vocalists, and songwriters yet I'm most impressed by their love for God and their fellow man. This love permeates their performances. Their concerts are entertaining. Their purpose of promoting the Good News is evident. Their connection with their audience is real.
